Hi,

When a Contributor Client 8.4 try to save a node this error occurs:

'COM object method returns error code: 0x80004003; E_POINTER (Puntero no válido)'
WHILE [CCLMsg: system text='Invoking node action: NODEACTION.SAVE'] [invokeStandardVirtualMethod(SourceFile681) <- invokeAction(INodeModelImpl.java181)]
'COM object method returns error code: 0x80004003; E_POINTER (Puntero no válido)'
WHILE [CCLMsg: system text='Invoking node action: NODEACTION.SAVE'] [invokeStandardVirtualMethod(SourceFile681) <- invokeAction(INodeModelImpl.java181)]

My application works fine on the Contributor Server and has a rule with Restrict Save... the problem is just on client machines.

Thanks for your help...

Hi

We've recently had this error as well. There are a couple of things you can try:

1. Delete temp files on the machine where the error is occurring

Do this from both Internet Explorer (Tools/Internet Options...) and also in Windows Explorer, delete all the temp folders and files from C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\CognosRCP\workspace\contributor_8.4.

We found this worked with both the users who were having the issue

2. Cognos recommended solution - switch back to Classic Client then change back to rich client again.

This is the recommended method from Cognos, however we could not do this as we had our own in-house customised msi file and did not have the Classic Client installed on users' pcs.

On the server, in CAC:
1) switching to the classicl client
2) GTP

On the client machine:
3) uninstall the rich client
4) install the classic client

Then,
On the server, in CAC:
5) switching back to the rich client
6) GTP

On the client machine:
7) uninstall the classic client
8) install the rich client

After that should be able to open, enter the data, validate, both pass and fail, and save without errors.

Good luck!

I am getting this exact error during a save for one Application. It is large but the cognos team up in Canada cant replicate it.

Thanks for the help above but neither worked at all. Does anyone else know the solution or work around to this problem?

You can try turning the persist option on the application to either 'Client' or 'Off'
After that setting is changed, do a GTP and test again

Hi all

Further to the above, we found that the app on which it wasn't working had a validation rule on. Once the rule was taken off the error no longer occurs.

We are currently working through the validation process again so we can a) have a functioning rule and b) prevent the save error - will keep you posted.

Delete the profile the user (remember : save the user things docs, desktop, favorites,etc...) and when user logon again and create a new profile, the system work again.

We had similar issues for some users and after few Service requests to IBM Cognos
we gave up on the rule validation .

The problem is contributor is unable to display the validation rule error

The current workaround to this issue is to install the classic client as well if you are using the rich client.
