Execution Method of Query Objects

Hi,

I would like to know when and/or for what reason the "Execution Method" of the query objects in Cognos could be set to "concurrent".
What is the benefit ?
Cognos says that, depending to the "environment", it could increase the speed but ...  in which cases ?

Thanks,
vinc.

I'd say this is very much a 'trial and error' subject. We have typical management reports that constitute of some 30 queries. In 8.1 all the queries are processed sequentially which means lots of overhead. This typically leads to endless reruns of the query indicator bar in the GUI.
Parallel execution (offered by later 8.x versions) could probably reduce processing time, but only if the database engine can handle enough multiple requests at one time.

My educated guess is that it would be suitable for relatively few but long running reports and less suitable for high intensity (many requests due to many active users)..

Just my 2 cents..

Thanks for your answer,

I must admit that I don't understand all the things about the parameters on the Concurrent Queries.
As the reports are supposed to be used by many users, I'd say that I don't to use Concurrent Queries.
I don't know what is "long to run", to be franckly speaking.
30 queries !? Whaou !? It must have been interesting to develop that, isn't it ?
So, what is "long" in your opinion, as you are surely more experienced than I'm, just in order to compare (how long a report based on 30 queries could run ?).

In fact, I would tend to say with the queries and/or SQL itself, as it's running fast. But I don't want to miss a important thing / parameter to use that could make me save few seconds or ressources.

One important thing for me is that I'm using only PDF format, so I don't want to waste any time as It seems logic to me (but I might be wrong) that cognos needs all the datas to begin to create the pages.
(no "Only First Rows" option or things like that can be used in my case)

Thanks for advises,
vinc.
