Running report to html vs. all other output types

Got a pretty crazy situation and was wondering if anyone else experienced this.  I have a list report in Cognos Connection and run it to html.  The report runs and produces output in html (a list with 6 columns of data over 2 pages).  I run the same report to any other output (pdf, all excel versions, csv, xml) and I only get the list column headers with no data.  I created a case with Cognos, and am waiting for our dba to get back from vacation to observe what is going on at the server level when each type of report is run.  The cognos rep stated that there are different "things" that go on when a report is run to html vs. the other outputs.

Another twist...the support rep told me to put a filter on the query and run the report each way to see what happens.  I did this and the html output shows me 1 line of data in the list, all other formats show multiple lines data in the list.

I have searched all over for some explanation and solution but have not been successful.  Anyone have any thoughts??
Thanks
Jeff

Found the issue.  In the report we were using an "except" operation in relating 2 queries in the query explorer.  The "except" was replaced by a "join" between the 2 queries with 1:1=0:n cardinality. The report now runs fine in all formats.  After speaking with the report author, this report was originally created in 8.2 and worked fine.  The issue came when we upgraded to 8.3.  I forwarded this information onto Cognos to log a "bug" about this.  So if any of you are on 8.3 and using the "except" operation between 2 queries be cautious of the results if the report is run in different output formats.
Thanks
Jeff

This was quite a while ago and I think the only thing I got was that this was logged as a bug.
