Questions for users and for yourself:

1> What do they want to see in the cube?
2> How to construct the dimensions so that they can be used multiple ways for maximum ways to look at things.
3> What should be the measures. Also, whether a measure should be from the data source or a calculated one.
4> Who will be the users? (for security). Also, to determine whether you need child cubes.
5> What data source should be used. There are different levels of data in the database (Detailed, Summarised)
6> Automation of the cube for refreshing of the cube.
7> Whether there will be a cube to cube connection.

There could be many other things. It depends.

By the way, is your question a very complicated one that will benefit the entire community? You rated it 5 stars.

Thanks very much for the points,

Yes I thought everyone in this field starts of with just theoritical knowledge and these kindof questions can be answered only by 'Gurus' which will definetely benefit everyone here.

Thats the only reason I rated it that way.

Thanks nywayz

Before building a cube ,First we have to create the report and then save it as .imr or and then save as it in .iqd format which will be the source for the cube.while creating the report we should have all the information like dimensions and measures.after that only we can create the cube .
i think this will give u some information .
any problem  i will try to help out. :)

The above reply is good only in the case of an IQD. If your data source is going to be an iqd file, only then you will need to follow the above instructions. Remember, your datasource could also be an Excel crosstab, Delimited-field text, Architect model etc.

sap

these thing you may consider

how many Dimensions are there
how many levels does each dimension has
how many measeures/calculated are there
Drilup\downn functionality
are there any cube groups
cube is incrementally updated or rebuild from the scratch

hope this will help..........................
