I downloaded cognos 8.3 version, however I did not receive any sample databases and models alongwth it.

Does anybody know from where can I find them ?

Thanks,
Vick.

In 8.3 the samples are a seperate download. have another look at where you downloaded 8.3

Thanks, I managed to download the sample databases, Now I need to create one database in MS SQL server so that I can use it as a datasource for Gosales.

Anybody knows how can I create a database in MS SQL server using the GOSALES.zip file provided in under db folder in cognos samples ?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Vivek Mody

Extract the gosales.zip file and hand that file over to the DBA to restore it.
Then ask the DBA to create a user that read access to this database.
You also might want to have database GOSALESDW restored to have access to all the BI samples.
The you can do the rest in cognos connection.

This is a test install on my machine. I have already got MS SQL Server 2000 installed on my machine.

Let me know if anybody knows the process !!

Thanks,

I had this problem also.  In Framework Manager, if you click on 'Open a Project, the Look in box will open, then go to  Cognos / c8 / webcontent / samples.  You should find the GO samples located here or in model.  When you open the file (Framework manager), you may have to republish it (the package) to Cognos content to be able to access it.  Check to make sure the data source is in Configuration (Administer Cognos Content / configuration).  If it is there, you should have no problem republishing the package.  If not, you'll need to find out where it is located on the server and create a datasource for it.

Hope this helps!

Hi Vivek - could you let me know where you obtained the samples from? Many thanks.

I am also facing the same problem. Can any one please provide me the link for downloading the datasource samples for cognos 8.4.

Thanks in Advance.

I guess, if you have IBM user id to download the Cognos software, then you can download the samples from their websites

The same problem is valid for me, too.
I have installed 8.3; server, modeller, trasformer and samples. My. .content store is IBM Content Database, ie, Apache Derby.
Now: there are 7 directories under webcontent/samples directory. Which one is for Derby ? In order to manage to select by Framework Manager, I think it should be extracted from zip.

The samples install needs to be downloaded from the IBM passport advantage site using your IBM Customer Number to log in:

http://www-01.ibm.com/software/howtobuy/passportadvantage/pao_customers.htm

Once you have installed it, you will end up with a samples folder in program files\ibm\cognos\c8\webcontent.  Within the samples folder is a datasources folder, and this contains the database backups of the sample databases for various vendors. If, for example, you have SQL Server, go to the sqlserver folder and unzip the GOSALES and GOSALESDW files, then in SQL Server create a new database for each, and restore the relevant file to the database using the SQL Server restore utility.

There are no sample databases for Apache Derby - this is only provided for use as a content store database, not as a reporting database.
