sorry for all the questions! i think this is my last.

In my report i want to show progress by day compared to a forecast...

on Monday the sales forecast is submitted into our sales system for the week (by day) and i want to show in a column these forecasts as they were when they were submitted (monday), however the sales forecast can be amended at any time during the week by the user, intentionally.

is there a way to lock my data in the column to show the forecast that was entered in on the Monday without it updating each day? currently as i run the report daily it updates the forecast showing any changes they have made, ideally id like to eventually be able to show the changes made to the forecast by day and the sales variance to the original forecast but without having the Monday forecast locked I'm stuck.

so close to finishing this report that no one beloved i could do (they may be right but i wont be beaten)

Thanks all.

Hi,

It isn't easy, but it can probably be done. The easiest way would be if the underlying system being used to enter the forecast had a specific column that doesn't get updated except for once each Monday. I'm assuming this isn't an option, though.

The most obvious way I can think of is to create a Data Set on Monday, after the forecasts have been entered and before anyone has had chance to modify them. It would need to contain a unique key for each forecast value, and the forecast values themselves. You could create a Data Module to join the Data Set to your current package/data module, then base your report off the new Data Module. That way your report would have access to the static Forecast values stored in the Data Set, as well as all the other data you currently use. You can schedule Data Sets to update automatically, so once you have created it, you can get it to refresh each Monday without any further manual intervention.

As I said, it's not easy, but I think it can be done.

Cheers!

MF.
