"To use this dialog, each container in this report must have a name."

I keep getting ^^ error message when trying to add a data drop-down list to an active report.

I have a sql based query (Query 1) which is the basis for my column bar visualization.  I would like the user to be able to filter the graph by payroll_number so I'm trying to add that as a data drop-down list but when I click on the 'Make a Connection' button, I keep getting this error message.

Have you checked in the properties of the column bar visualization to see if it has an entry in the Name property? If it does, are there any other containers in the report (lists, crosstabs, visualizations etc) that do not?

Cheers!

But now I'm having an issue scheduling the Active report.  I keep getting this error:
RSV-PMG-0002 Unable to populate the parameter cache because retrieving report parameters requires prompt values.

The Admin Console tells me that the schedule "Succeeded" but then has a little caution symbol and this error message.  And, of course, I did not receive the emailed report.

I saw some posts about this error with suggestion to go back into report and save it again to clear the cache or something like that so I tried that but didn't help.  Also, I can't find much at all online about scheduling an Active report or even in the IBM documentation so I'm curious if you CAN schedule it.  I can't imagine not....seems like the exact purpose of an Active report....to email to someone to use off-line.  Am I wrong?

Any ideas?

Does the report use any parameters (eg ?something? in a filter or expression, and/or a prompt macro)? You wouldn't normally use these in an active report?

No parameters or filters in the report (other than the interactive filter data drop down for the Active report).  HOWEVER, we do have 3 instances of our db (test, dev, prod) that we get prompted to select one of them every time we run the report.  This is the case with every report.  So every time I schedule a report, I set the prompt to the Prod selection.  I did this when scheduling this report as well.

Just to be clear....you can absolutely schedule an active report, correct?  It's also only giving me the option of scheduling it to an HTML and yet I could swear you could export it to Excel and still have the interactivity within the excel spreadsheet, no?

Well, I got it to schedule, but still only as a HTML.  Does this not work for Excel?

Hi,

Yes, you can absolutely schedule an active report to generate the output. However, an active report renders only as an MHT file. You can't render it as regular HTML, PDF, Excel, CSV etc.

Sadly no. That's not how active reports are designed to work.

ok....thank you so much for your help.  I was able to "download" the mht file and open (only in IE) and that's sorta cool, but not sure if my users will like that.  Thanks for all your help!!

IBM also offers an Active Report Viewer app for Windows, and/or you can use the original Cognos Mobile app to consume active report outputs on a mobile device.
