How to turn off unwanted adding of nested tables

I just notice that the new version of Cognos Analytics (11.1) we use has the annoying feature to 'help' me by adding tables when I try to add elements in a table above, next or under other elements in an existing table. Since I have very specific ways of using tables and blocks, I want to choose myself. Especially since once it adds a table, I can't seem to get the elements out of that new table. And since I can't seem to position the new element where I want it, Cognos is making a big mess of it.

Where can I turn off this setting? Please help!

I find the culprits. I turned off these two settings in the general settings of the report:
1) Options > Edit > in-place edit
2) Options > Report > Enable guided report layout

I will check which one of the two is the actual one, but now the annoying table cluttering stopped.

Looks like you found the answer (and impressively quickly). My first suggestion would have been your number 2 setting above.

Cheers!

Great information.  That's one of my major irritations with 11.1.x.  Since I don't want to annoy all of my users...
Is the setting per-user, per-report, or per-session?
Is there a global setting for this in Cognos Administration or via XML hacking?

Hi Doug,

It seems to be per user - once you toggle it off as a user it remains off when authoring other reports as that user. I'm not seeing an option to apply it globally, but I assume it's hiding somewhere in the content store.

I have to turn it off now & then so I think the setting is not permanent. The same issue happens with my color favs.  I have add them now & them. Not sure hos/where this info store, but not permanent for me
