Hey Folks,
We have some stubborn users that are very comfortable and familiar with the ease of use of Query Studio.  Now that IE is being deprecated by Microsoft a lot of these users are being forced to move to chrome/edge/chromium etc...

Sadly, QS being a legacy tool is not supported in these browsers.  Leaving us with our users needing to quickly get up to speed on Report Studio.

Are we missing something or is that the path that needs to be taken, RS as you know is much more complicated and I'm not sure its really a proper ad-hoc, drag and drop etc... tool.

I'm not a report developer so I want to be sure I'm not missing something.

Any tips or places you can point me towards is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

I think the answer really depends on what you users are looking to be able to do. If it's simple display of data, then Dashboards might be a good option for them. They are simple and intuitive, and as a bonus they also look a lot nicer than Query Studio :)
If they need to be able to do more complex stuff then Reporting is the way to go. The good news is that it doesn't look like Cognos 10 Report Studio these days. The UI is much simpler to use, and it supports Preview mode (where you can see the data live in the UI as you add it in - just like in Query Studio). There are simple filter and sort dialogs (similar to Query Studio) and you don't have to dig under the skin to build a working ad-hoc report. If you need them, though, you have all the same powerful capabilities you find in Report Studio at your fingertips. They are just not "in your face" like they were in Report Studio, meaning that less capable authors don't see them and get confused by them.

Cheers!
