IBM Cognos Configuration did not receive a response

Hi all,

I'm facing a problem with the installation of the new version of cognos analytics (11.1.6). In particular, after having installed and made the necessary configurations through Cognos Configuration, the relative cognos service cannot start correctly. The error that is returned is
"CFG-ERR-0106 IBM Cognos configuration did not receive a response from the IBM Cognos Service in the time allotted".
I've also tried all the possible solutions linked here: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/troubleshooting-cfg-err-0106-ibm-cognos-configuration-did-not-receive-response-when-starting-ibm-cognos-service, but none helped me.
What do you suggest? Thanks!

It's complaining that the CA server had not started up in the time allotted to it.  A time out basically.  It doesn't mean that the server necessarily has failed to start.

Did the server actually start?  You can check this several ways including opening a browser and going to your server.

For any of the actions, was any behaviour change observed?  Did you perform the actions in isolation? i.e. did you re-set stuff after you tried one action before you tried another?

How much memory have you allocated to the JVM?   Double it and re-start the server.

How much memory do you have on the machine where CA is installed?

Thanks for the reply. The server seems to be up; inside Cognos Configuration there is a green arrow in the Cognos Service icon. Moreover, when I go to my server via browser, a blank page with the generic text "Error, see logs" is returned. CA is installed in a Virtual Machine with 16GB RAM

How much memory have you allocated to the JVM? ( it's a property in the child of cognos server in the configuration tool; it says websphere something or other and will have a default value of 4096 or 8192.   )

Environment/ibm cognos services/ ibm cognos

What URL are you using to connect? Do you have a web server configured, or are you connecting directly using the port number?

Meep!

The RAM allocated for the JVM is 8192 and the url I use to connect is localhost:9300/bi

Then, as I suggested earlier, double it and restart the server.  It will probably restart without the timeout.

Mind you 16 GB is not very much RAM for a production level environment so you might want to rethink that too.
