Missing data from excel export

Ok, this is a bit of a weird one, which has shaken my confidence a little. I've got a report which brings back data perfectly when I run it in HTML format. However, when I export the report to Excel I've got records that are missing. The report is a straightforwards list, which is based on half a dozen queries, so there shouldn't be anything for the export to trip over.

An example of an Item Number that has not made it to the export is 100-369#D...could there be anything about that which would cause excel to skip it?

Things that I've tried

  • clear the cache
  • recreate the page
  • move the report
  • recreate the report
  • filter the report for that specific item (excel output is blank in that case)
  • Check the tabular data (data is there in that case)
  • export the tabular data to excel (data is then missing)

Has anyone got any other suggestions? Has anyone had this problem? Having data missing from excel outputs is very worrying. We send excel data to clients, and it's also used to create monthly financial reports.

Hi Chris,

Just as a sanity check, do you see the same issue if you render as PDF? What about CSV? If you render as HTML and run in the background (ie it renders the whole output in one go) does that have the same issue?

Just trying to think outside the box here and see it it's anything to do with HTML's page-by-page rendering vs rendering the whole report at once...

Cheers!

MF.

Hi - thanks for the ideas, I'll give those a go and feed back. I've tried the report with a filter for just that item number and it's run in HTML with just a single row, and come back blank for excel, so it's not page-by-page rendering that's the problem in this case.

It's got me scratching my head, and as I said earlier, it's worrying in case it's happening on any other reports.

Anyway, I'll try those suggestions and let you know what I find out
