Hi All,

We are playing around with 8.3 on a test server. I copied one of our Cognos 8 Transformer models(stored as pyi) and tried opening it on the 8.3 version.

But, the file is not even visible to 8.3 . The types that 8.3 seems to look for is .mdl and pyj ...i think it is pyj now and not pyi. I tried searching for pyj on the support site, but nothing came up. ...8.1 Transformer clearly lists *.pyi under filetypes, but 8.3 seems to list *.pyj ...or at least I think it's a j.

When I saved the 8.1 transformer model as a .mdl and tried opening in 8.3, it was able to open it. I know about the ASCII thing, but have 2 questions:

1) Anyone know anything about this pyj thing or am I mistaken?
2) Will savign our models as .mdl and creating cubes have any negative impacts?

Thanks

Mr.Cognos

Hi Arsenal,
1)
In Transformer 8.3, models saved in binary format now use the .pyj file extension. In Transformer 7.x, models saved in binary format used the .pyi file extension.

Before upgrading Transformer 7.x models to Transformer 8.3, you must save your .pyi models in the .mdl (text) file format. We strongly recommend that you keep a .mdl file backup of all Series 7 models that you upgrade to Transformer 8.3.

2)

I creat cubes everyday with MDL, there's no problem with this format file.

Bye,

Arsenal

Thanks for your reply, Mr. Cognos.
Seems to be what I had suspected. I wonder why Cognos changed from .pyi to .pyj

Mr.Cognos

Hi Arsenal,

I think that in previous Transformer's versions also changed extension.

Bye,
