Hi there, i find cognos both brilliant and frustrating all at the same time, i have a problem that should have a very easy solution but for the life of me i cant figure it out

I have an active report with a single query, data looks a bit like this:

Stage*
Likelihood of win*
Reason*
Expected Sales £m

I have 3 charts one for each of the * fields all working well and talking to each other using variables (that can either be black or have a vlaue)

However all i want to do now is show the total "Expected Sales £m" as a single value at the top of the report based on the 3 variables (that could be empty) so if the variables are all empty it just shows the total, if one of them is selected it filters against that 2... etc.

I've tried the following:

Data deck: with the extra items being the 3* fields. This seems to just return the first record in the query ? i've treied this with both singletons and lists

List with hidden fields: wont aggregate... it shows a row for each of the combinations.

lists with property fields: the same.

I must be missing something somewhere chaps, anyone offer any advice?

Dan

The easiest solution I can think of is to use either a list visualization or a crosstab visualization, add the measure (Expected Sales £m), add the three items to the "Extra Categories" area, and have the variables filter the list/crosstab visualization.

Cheers!

Thanks for the response, that certainly makes sense, However, I have cognos 10.2.1. I can't see a list or crostab in visualisations :S

There are a number of RAVE visualizations out there that you can download and add to your C10 instance. If you can't find one that suits, you can use the Visualization Customiser tool to create/amend one of your own.

Thanks, i've googled and drawn a blank, outside of the IBM website statdard list is there any thrid party that make these available?

Failing this i will just push for a cognos 11 upgrade.
