Hello,
Do you know if its possible to route all dashboard/story traffic to just some servers in a multi-server environment. For instance, dedicate two servers in a four server environment to handle all dashboard traffic.

Thanks,
P.

Hi

As far as I know, onCe you specify same content manager Uri for all dispatchers , all of them become part of one pool of services that cannot be externally controlled as to which ones will serve which requests; it is taken care of cognos automatically . But if someone knows of a way to do that I would be interested to know as well just for knowledge.

I am not sure if there is a specific service exclusively  for dashboards and stories and if that can be disabled on dispatchers where you don't want them to be processed and if that serves your need.

Thanks
Kiran

If you have at least 2 dispatchers, you can implement routing rules.
Though, as far as I know is limited to package based routing and server group routing.

If you can split your user audience into dashboard/storyboard users and report users, routing rules are the way to go here. You'll need to create a group for dashboard/storyboard users and add the dashboard/storyboard users to this group. Create a server group containing the two servers you want to run your dashboards/storyboards on and another server group for the other two servers. Define routing rules to route requests for the dashboard/storyboard group to the dashboard/storyboard server group and add a second rule to route everyone to the other two servers. Since routing rules are evaluated in order, you'll need to make sure the dashboard/storyboard rule is first in the list.

Hi MF,

Just a question, what if there are users that have both capabilities to run dushboards and reports?
Would this mean that if a member of dashboard/storyboard group runs a report. This will be directed still to the dashboard/storyboard server group. Only those users that are not member of the dashboard/storyboard group will be accommodated by the 2nd server group.  ::)

while writing this reply, I just realized that's the way it is  ;D

Yes, exactly. The approach I outlined will only work if you have discrete sets of users.

Another approach might be to use package routing rules, but similarly, this would only work if reports used packages and dashboards didn't. In reality a report can use a data module and a dashboard can use a package, so there's no perfect approach.
