Hello Everybody,

I need your help about Cognos reports executing.
I work with Cognos 10.2.1. I know, it's not a very recent version.

So, I have a work who lunch 50 reports. Until soon, it worked very well but since some weeks, there is an error message from Cognos.
RSV-SRV-0042 trace feedback...

The problem is when I run the reports alone, it works perfectly and quikly. But when I lunch my work with all the reports, only 4 reports run (and never the same).

For information:
it's on development environment. It still works well on production environment.
no delivery or modification for a long time.

Thanks in advance for you help

Hi,

It sounds to me like a simple case of your server being overloaded. What CPU and memory resources does it have? How many reports is the server configured to run simultaneously?

See the technote below...

Cheers!

Thanks for your help MFGF but I don't think the issue come from the 3 points below.

1. Ensure that the minimum hardware requirements for Cognos 10 have been met.
==> It worked normaly some days ago.

2. Ensure that settings for a local firewall are not interfering with Cognos 10. Either disable the local firewall, or if that is not an option, modify the firewall settings for the Cognos 10 ports.
==> There isn't any firewall

3. Ensure that multiple browsers (more than 2) aren't being used on the workstation, as this may interfere with the communications.
==> There isn't Internet access

What has changed since then? Has any new software been added? Any patches? Anything that could be consuming resources on the server? What do you see in cogserver.log at the times the reports fail? What is the CPU consumption at that point? What is the memory in use?

Hi MFGF,

You're right, the free server memory wasn't enough. I restarted the server yesterday evening and it' work now.
Great ! I was looking for since 2 days.

I think the RAM memory is not enough on the server. There is 6 Go for the RAM memory. Is it enough ?
When I check the RAM memory before to open something on the server, the memory used is 2,79Go.

Thanks for you help

Hi,

6Gb total? That is way under what you really need. Are you running Cognos on a server or a laptop? :)

I'd suggest a minimum of 16Gb for any install, or 32Gb minimum if you move to Cognos Analytics (Cognos 11).

Cheers!

Yes 6Go Total.
We running Cognos on a server. It's the development environment. But I won't be surprise that the production environment be in the same configuration.

Thanks a lot for your recommandations. It will allow me to ask more RAM memory to the support team for Cognos.
