Hi I just want to check is there any way to restrict users like we could in BI between just having Dashboard and being able to do Dashboard and Reporting?

I have attached the diagram our 3rd party person has given us but I want to check that we cannot restrict users from utilising what is now the new report studio.

Hi,

The matrix you posted shows what capabilities each license is officially permitted to use. A user does not necessarily need to be granted all capabilities allowed by their license, though. You can have (for example) ten Analytics User licenses, and restrict five of them to just use dashboards if you wish, while the other five have access to dashboards and authoring (the new Report Studio).

Cheers!

Mf that is awesome news. I thought we should be able to but the company we are working with kept saying it cannot be done. Can you point me in the right direction on how we can restrict users?

Hi,

You can either do it from Manage > Accounts > <your Cognos namespace> > <select a role you want to amend> > Customization > Features

or

Manage > Administration Console > Security > Capabilities > <select a desired capability and add the required users/groups/roles>

There are help pages documenting these two for more detail:
