Slicer off Multi Select Prompt

Hello,

I have a slicer that works nicely to select details of a single project. It is "set ([Summary].[Project].[Project] -> ?pProject?)". I now need to change the prompt page to allow for multiple selection, however when I do that, the slicer ceases to work. The data source is a TM1 cube. As you can see from the slicer, the cube is called "Summary", dimension is "Project" and the hierarchy is also "Project". The prompt is called "pProject". The prompt is required. There is a default member with the element ID of "s018".

Can someone please help me out by explaining what I need to do to make this slicer behave?

Thanks heaps!

John

Hi,

What sort of prompt are you using on your prompt page? From the looks of your expression, I'd expect to see a Tree Prompt (as you can in theory select members from anywhere in the Project hierarchy)? Is this what you are using? What do you see if you temporarily remove your prompt from the prompt page and run the report? Do you get a generated Tree prompt that allows multi-select?

Cheers!

Hi
Does it have to be a slicer?. A filter may work equally well and probably will not have that issue

Hi @mfgf and @seveman. Thank you both for your replies.

Firstly @sevemen, yes, I want to keep it as a slicer, simply because all our reports use slicers and I believe it gives best performance over a multidimensional data source.

Secondly, @mfgf, yes, it is a Tree Prompt. If I remove the Tree Prompt from the prompt page and run it, then initially the old prompt page shows (as empty) and then yes, a secondary Tree Prompt is displayed that allows multi select. It then seems as if the two items are selected from this "auto" Tree prompt are being included in the slicer for the data table part of our report.

However I am also using the same syntax in the original slicer in a small query to determine the Project Name. This does not return anything with either a single or multiple item selected.

If either of you or anyone else has any ideas I would be very grateful to hear them!

Thanks

JV

Can you describe the mechanism you are using to try to display members from this second query?

Hi all. I am now using a filter which refers to the pProject parameter and am getting the right records.  Thanks!

Hmmmmm...... A detail filter? With a dimensional source, that's possibly going to come back to bite you in future :)

Yeah, I don't like it either, but it is only to present a project title for display at the top of a report. If I could make it work just with a slicer I would prefer!
