Similar to Tableau, Is it possible in COGNOS to share your reports public. If Yes, How would that effect licencing cost?

Public i mean:
I want to embed my report on our website and it should be accessible to everyone across the globe

What license model are you using for your Cognos instance? Are you using a named user model, or a Processor Value Unit (PVU) model? If the former, then you are restricted to named individuals accessing your Cognos content through the portal, but if the latter, you can have as many users as the server will physically support.

Other questions. Are you wanting to provide access for someone to execute a report, or just to view a saved report output? If the latter, and if the report output isn't generated via bursting, you can share it with as many people as you like - as long as they are not logging in to Cognos. This also applies with Active Reports too - these rendered outputs can be shared directly with others as long as they are not "tailored" (which IBM determines based on whether report bursting was used to create the outputs).

I'd recommend you talk to your IBM account manager to confirm...

Cheers!

Thanks for your quick reply :-). Regarding licence , I am not sure, I will figure it out.

And Regarding report type, Report is basically an interactive Dashboard (Unlike a static saved output).

I am not sure how to put this question, But do you think Tableau supersedes COGNOS when it comes to accessibility (Sharing with bulk number of users)?

Hi,

An "interactive dashboard" could mean an active report, so no - this active report could be delivered to as many users as you want, provided it's not created via bursting.

If you really need to share a Cognos Analytics dashboard (as opposed to an active report) then you'd need to be using PVU based licensing.

Let me be very specific here, Although it is an interactive report, I have created this using a report studio
(Realizing performance issues and other browser issues with active reports)

Are you on version 10 or 11? Your topic indicates 11 but you refer to report studio which is known simply as report authoring in 11.

What browser issues are you referring to? There were some limitations with support in version 10, but not 11 as far as I'm aware:

In version 10 Apple Safari support is limited to versions 5, 6, or 7 which don't support .mht and limited to Chrome v41 which also does not support .mht.
The supported software site for 10.2.2: https://www.ibm.com/software/reports/compatibility/clarity-reports/report/html/prereqsForProduct?deliverableId=1391013543612#sw-17

On version 11, there are no limitations regarding .mht files noted for supported browsers.
The supported software site for 11.0.6: https://www.ibm.com/software/reports/compatibility/clarity-reports/report/html/prereqsForProduct?deliverableId=88472D001C3111E69AAAC4D0C72C126B#sw-13

What performance issues are you referring to? Active reports do have size considerations to bear in mind but a dashboard typically presents summary information. Some degree of detail information is possible when best practice guidelines are followed to keep file sizes to a minimum. In my experience the inclusion of detail information is easily possible and useful when showing top or bottom x details or showing exceptions that are factors in poor performance. What they wouldn't do is provide ready access to massive data dumps but I don't believe a regular report should provide that sort of thing either.

I can't say whether an active report is the right choice or not for your situation, but it isn't clear to me if you were basing that decision on current information for version 11 or not.
