Hi,

Cognos.ini is (was) part of Cognos 7 (Impromptu, PowerPlay etc) and doesn't exist at all in Cognos 8/10/11. If you (for example) want to continue to use IQDs in Cognos 10, instead of the data source connections being defined in cognos.ini, they are now contained in cs7g.ini...

Cheers!

This sounds like series 7 to me... What are you trying to accomplish?

Thanks for your time MFGF.
Yes you are correct and now i am able to connect to IQD file which i migrated from V7. But some how i forget to do the same in Production environment and i can see that i am able to connect to the same IQD file without defining the connection information in cs7g.ini file.So just want to confirm is it not compulsory to define the data source information in this file?

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Jay,
I am migrating the IQD file from v7 to 10.2.2 and i come to know that i have to define data source information in cognos.ini file to connect to IQD in v10. I tried to search it in 10 but is not available so i posted this question.

Any way thanks for your time.

If you are using IQDs, the data source connection needs to be defined in cs7g.ini, otherwise there would be no way to reference the queries back to a data source.

Once again thanks for the time MFGF and yes you are correct it will not work if we will not define datasource connection in cg7.ini file.I found one new thing that if we are opening PYJ file which we migrated from development environment in production then cube is building without defining the same but in case i am trying to the MDL file it is asking to define the data source information in same . Dont know the exact reason but may be PYJ file is the compiled version but MDL is not. Can you please share your experience on this?

Thanks,
Sunny

Thanks,
Sunny

Thanks,

Yep - pyj versions are compiled models, and mdl versions are not - you can open an mdl file with a text editor.
