Datasource reference change in IQD file

Hi Everyone,
We are in the process of migration from cognos 7 to cognos 10.2.2.We also have a transformer in our projects which uses the IQD file as a datasource. When i openend the IQD file i can see it is pointing to IMR.So just want to know if is it possible to directly point the IQD file to Database inplace of the IMR so that cube can directly take data from the database.Please share your experiance.Thanks in adavance.
