Hi All,

We are right now testing how to use SSAS cubes with Cognos 11. One of the things I have found that the DMR report  functions of report studio don't work with SSAS cubes.

Has anyone tries using SSAS cubes with Cognos 11 or previous version of cognos and faced similar challenge and what would be the work around for it.

Hi,

Can you provide an example of a dimensional function you are having trouble with? I've used Cognos over SSAS in the past without any issues...

Hi

linkMember() doesn't work with all OLAP sources. I recall it isn't supported in TM1, for example, but I don't remember ever trying it with SSAS. What error do you see?

I'm pretty sure I've used the maximum() and minimum() dimensional summaries before. Can you tell us the exact syntax you're using and the error you get?

Cheers!

Edit: I just tried maximum(<my measure> within set <my Products level>) and it returned the exact results I'd expect. I don't have any dimensions with multiple hierarchies so I can't try linkMember()

Is there a way to connect to SSAS from Cognos when running on a Linux platform?

The technotes I read online appear to require Cognos to run on Windows, which isnt an option in our case.

We were able to successfully connect to a SSAS cube last month as a proof of concept.  From what I recall, everything worked in report studio and functioned as we expected.  It also worked well with the Excel add-in CAFE.  I didn't personally build the cube, so I can't answer any questions from that aspect.  I connected to the cube through Framework Manager which ultimately is just a pass-through.  I can try and answer any specific questions you have, but as far as I can tell we have a fully functional cube within report studio.

Thanks Robb,

Are you running Cognos Server on Linux?

The docs I've read from IBM lead me to believe that connecting to SSAS as a data source can only be done from Cognos on a Windows platform.

Perhaps I overlooked that bit of information in your post, but no, we are not running on Linux.

Hi,

Is the above mentioned DMR report functions  incompatible with SSAS cube model issue is resolved.

Please let me know. We are also facing the same issue in Cognos 11.

Thanks,
Akila
