Dear all,

I am the system administrator who is figuring out the architecture of Cognos BI Server. We are using version 10.2.1.
While performing configuration, I came across the internal as well as the external dispatcher. From the installatin and configuration guide, I can't figure it out. Can anyone help explain what is internal and external dispatcher? How are they different from each other? Thank you very much.

Hi,

There is only one dispatcher in this case, but it has an internal URI and an external URI for communicating. The Internal URI for the dispatcher is the channel used to communicate with the dispatcher from services on the same machine. The external URI for the dispatcher is the channel used to communicate with the dispatcher from services on other machines. Usually these two URIs are set to the same value. Really the only time you'd set them differently is if you are using Secure Sockets only for external requests, but not for internal requests. In this case the Internal URI would specify http, and the External URI would specify https (with a different port number).

Cheers!

MF.
