Install Problems with 11.0.5

Our admin has taken our 11.0.4 environment and attempted to bring us up to 11.0.5. When upgrading over the existing he found that the configuration didn't come through and had to re-enter all the various items. We found that certain elements behaved strangely (e.g., a report with multiple layouts fed from the same query do not filter correctly in the interactive viewer; drill-through links from interactive viewer opens a blank "Welcome" window; run to HTML or PDF from within edit mode in a report opens a blank "Welcome" window (although Excel output is fine); View tabular data within edit mode opens a blank "Welcome" window). These issues also occur over Cognos sample reports, not just our own stuff.

He then tried a fresh install and pointed to the content store but with the same result as before.

Has anyone else encountered issues like this that they were able to resolve? I'm certain it is something to do with our install and not product defects.

Same issue with both an upgrade and a new install, both on different boxes.  It appears that when they added the functionality to Run to Excel, Excel Data and CSV from the edit mode the other three were broken somehow.  Also tested in IE, Firefox and Chrome.  All the same issue.  Hoping someone at IBM fixes this quickly.

Looks like IBM have issued an interim fix for R5 already. This might fix the issues?

Cool. We've got time planned for this coming Wednesday to revisit the issue.

Hope it goes well! If you struggle on Wednesday, you should try to get someone from IBM to take a look :)

That is precisely the plan but hey, the more the merrier! Feel free to stop by if you happen to be in the greater Manchester area.

Very kind offer! I might just take you up on that... :)

Nope, still an issue...........this is something they need to address quickly.  Not having this functionality, especially the View Tabular Data option kind of hampers development although there are some less efficient workarounds.

Do you see the same issues if you point your browser to the free CA trial instance online? Wondering if it's a browser issue? I don't see the problems you are describing in my R5 instance...

A PMR was logged with IBM and they are working on it as they did not see the problem either.  However I will test it on the trial site.  I tried three different browsers all with the same problem.  It is also a problem on 2 new installs and 2 upgrades.  Got rid of cache, restarted services, servers, etc.  The error log is showing a credential error.  My guess IBM will come up with something quick.

Hmmm. What are you using as your authentication provider? Is this a custom install or a "Ready to run" install? Just wondering if there is a pattern to what triggers a problematic instance vs one that works. Mine is a custom install, using SQL Server as the content store and using ApacheDS as an LDAP authentication provider. I'm not using a web server for access - using the servlet gateway on port 9300.

Cheers!

Trying to figure out the "trigger" as well.  It is a simple install from scratch, no customization whatsoever.  Using all the defaults on the new install.  Others are an upgrade using defaults and specific ports, different databases.  Have tried both and all 4 have the same issue.  Went out to the trial site and you are correct, it is working correctly.  I would be much happier just having ONE fail as then I could maybe point to that install.

Lynn, try this -use a URL of something like this:

http://server:port/bi

When I use a URL formatted like this it works fine.  If I have a URL that has /bi/v1 at the end it does not work.

If you end it with /bi/V1/disp it works but you get an old 10.2 type of login screen.

I guess I used the one that did not work as Cognos Configuration had a URL of http://server:port/bi/v1/disp and I was just removing the disp to log into Cognos.

Ahh! Makes sense! I only ever use the /bi url. That's a very good spot!! Thanks for posting back to the forum on this - very (very) useful! :)

Thank you!!!!! We will be installing again today and will test this in our environment. Further proof that Cognoise is a fantastic community.

I did 11.0.5.0 by uni installing 11.0.4. Haven't come across problems mentioned by Lynn

The only issues I am facing now are
1. Cannot Test Data Server connections.
2. Cannot see FM tables with Dashboards.

above two works fine if you are using Chrome but not IE.

Cheers

This solved our problem. Many thanks again!
