Hi All,

we have Cognos BI system with LDAP authentication. I do not want to add user accounts manually in Cognos admin portal instead
I would like to import/sync the User contacts from LDAP to Cognos automatically once the user account added in LDAP system.

I can see two namespaces under - security > users, groups and roles > Cognos and OID.

I want to import/sync the user accounts into Cognos from LDAP/OID.

could you please share your expertise solution for this?

Thanks,
cng

Hi,

The Cognos namespace is a collection of groups and roles you can choose to use for security if you wish. It has one single user in it - the Anonymous user - but it doesn't support adding any other users. You are not able to "add user accounts manually" within Cognos - user accounts are added within your external provider (LDAP in your case). If these users already belong to groups in LDAP and you want to define your security rules based on these groups, you can do this. If you want to set up individual security rules for a user, you can also do this too. The users and groups don't need to be in the Cognos namespace for you to use them in your permissions and capabilities rules.

Cheers!

Hi MF,

Thank you very much. I didn't mean that i will create user accounts in cognos, user accounts are been creating in LDAP server only.

But when new user added in LDAP server, then I need to add that user into particular requested cognos group(ex- Sales group) manually by click on 'add' then search the user account & add into cognos Namespace group, then only user can access the cognos.

The manual add user step want to avoid that cause we will get bulk request to grant access to cognos like 50- 100 users.
we don't get share the user information to add manually hence trying to get it done sync the cognos for user details with LDAP.

I hope i have explained in more detailed.

Thanks,
cng

You don't need to do this necessarily. You can create security and capabilities based on LDAP groups if you wish. You don't have to use the Cognos groups and roles if you don't want to.

Along the lines of what MFGF said, you could create LDAP groups that parallel your Cognos groups, and make those LDAP groups members of the Cognos standard groups or whatever custom Cognos groups you create. Just food for thought.
