Not sure there's a "correct" Cognoise board on which to post this question, so I chose one where it had a good chance of being seen  ;)

I do a lot of Internet searches for documentation on aspects of IBM Cognos software, and quite often the results I get are docs for IBM Rational Software. I've been noticing this for maybe a couple of years. Two examples from today's search results are:

https://jazz.net/library/article/989

http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSRL5J_1.0.1/com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.ug_fm.10.1.1.doc/t_aggregate_rules_dialog.html%23aggregate_rules_dialog

So far, I've always had the impression that the Rational results I've got are completely applicable to the IBM Cognos 10 BI software that I use. By that I mean that the screens shown and the functionality described are identical to what I know. Also, I seem to remember that some Cognos BI docs I've come across have included links to Rational docs, although I don't have an example to hand.

But a sort of nagging doubt remains in my mind...

Would somebody who knows about these things be prepared to say if IBM Rational Software documentation is also (always?) applicable to IBM Cognos 10 BI software?

Thx
Michael

Looking at the second of those links, it looks like you've got a filter on your search for Rational Insight 1.0.1 (tick under the search box). Doesn't answer your question, but might explain the results you're getting...

Thanks Chris, but it wasn't me who specified this filter. All I did was to go to a very well known search engine, and type

Quotecognos semi-additive measures

into its search box. Based on all the algorithms it uses when processing searches, this very well known search engine gave as result #2 the second link I posted below.

Which sort of confirms what I was inferring in my original post about the apparent "interchangeability" of the documentation. Or maybe not?  :-\

Hi Michael,

Rational software comes with a bundled instance of Cognos 10 BI for reporting, and it's the same Cognos 10 BI you know (there is only one). I'm pretty sure the Rational version of Cognos is a version number behind, though - eg when Cognos 10.2.2 was current, Rational included Cognos 10.2.1.

Rational isn't the only IBM brand that includes bundled Cognos BI either...

Cheers!

MF.
