Relationship between 2 tables

Hello,

If this is not the place or the sort of questions to ask in this forum simply let me know.

Now, that been said, we need to start creating a brand new Framework manager model by importing all 4 available tables in our DATABASE LAYER. Let's say Table A, Table B, Table C, Table D

In order to:
- Create appropriate links between the tables and cardinality
- Create a Business Layer where we will take care to include for example our stand alone filters or Embedded filters and all calculated query items.
- Then we finish with our Presentation Layer which will simply be shorctuts to the appropriate QUERY SUBJECTS that are concerned.
- etc...
- And of course our package creation and deployment on the cognos portal.

NOTIFICATIONS:
We can then start producing our first reports based on that star shema model.

BUT, there will be other reports to create later and other tables to be imported (weeks from now). Those will be similar reports that will use their own Table D that will in reality be part of a LEFT OUTER JOIN and sometimes be part of a one to one relationship .
EX:
Report#1 will use Table A, Table B, Table C, Table D
Report#2 will use Table A, Table B, Table C, Table D1
Report#3 will use Table A, Table B, Table C, Table D2
Report#4 will use Table A, Table B, Table C, Table D3

QUESTIONS:
Should we create one model for each type of report needs ?
I mean a star schema model with all 4 tables A, B, C and D for the reports that will need it ?

Then another model for the star schema including Tables A, B, C and D1 ? The same for Tables A, B, C amd D2, etc ? Or do we import all those table in the same Framework manager model ?

Thanks !

Your model should accurately represent the data and not be modeled to a particular report.

I have no idea if your Table D, Table D1, etc. are all just presentations of the same underlying table. If they are, there should be one query subject. Just because a data item is in a table does not mean it has to be used in any particular report.

You should at least read through both the FM and Report Studio guides to get an understanding of Cognos reporting basics. Or get some training.
