DQM for FM packages and Poweer cubes

Hi Folks,

We are currently using cognos8.4 we are using relational packages and Power play cubes for reports development.

Now we are planning for an upgrade to 10.2.2 with 64bit application on 64 bit server with DQM option enabled on it.if we enable DQM option when we set Report server execution method type to 64 bit we will republish the package with DQM but can I use powerplay cubes without republishing or any changes on those cubes?

I have gone through few forums they are saying Powerplay cubes doesn't support DQM. Is that correct? if that is correct is it possible to use DQM for my packages and CQM for cubes?Please explain.

if I can use DQM for powerplay cubes what are the changes I have to do please explain.Client is very confused on this :( we have answer as early as possible to them.  :-[

Hi,

To be able to access Powercubes, you will need to retain the use of CQM access within your new Cognos instance. DQM is enabled by default, and is not disabled by having your Report Server Execution Method set to 32-bit. With your instance set up in this way, you will get 64-bit DQM access where you need it (DQM uses the Query Service, not the Report Service), and 32-bit CQM access for older data source types such as Powercubes - which sounds exactly like your requirement in this instance.

So, to confirm answers to your questions:

1. Don't set the Report Server Execution Method to 64-bit. By leaving it set to 32-bit you will get the option of using both 64-bit DQM access and 32-bit CQM access.
2. Powerplay cubes are not supported in DQM (along with ODBC and Native Client access to other data sources). For these you need CQM. DQM access is via JDBC only.
3. You can't use DQM for Powercubes, so the existing 32-bit CQM access you currently use in Cognos 8.4 will need to be retained and will work exactly as it does now.
