Question:

Is there a way like the Query Studio to Drag an entire Subject Query or the attributes under it
to the Workspace? Same style of Query Studio. I'm working with the workspace and it is not showing anything under the package but the Report, I can drag my previous list or crossbar that was developed?

Thx so much for your time :) :)

Hi,

You don't get access to package contents (query subjects/query items/dimensions/measures etc) in Cognos Workspace. It's not a report authoring environment - the idea is that you use it to assemble workspaces (dashboards) based on existing authored report content.

If you want to build report content from scratch while in Cognos Workspace, you would use Cognos Workspace Advanced. If you have 10.2.2 you can drag in a "Report" object from the toolbox and it will launch you into Cognos Workspace Advanced to create the content for the widget. If you're on an earlier version, go to the Actions icon in the toolbar (leftmost icon), point to "Launch" and select "Cognos Workspace Advanced. Once you complete your report, save it and then you can bring the content in to your workspace.

Cheers!

Thank you again: :) :)
Now I understand the Standard Report and Dashboard.
So, in order to emulate what Query Studio provides using
Workspace, I can use the Workspace as it is shown in the
attachment but only the Objects from a Report is available.
Right? What if there was no Report and they wanted to do
Ad-Hoc like Query Studio?

Thx so much. :-\ :-\

Hi,

I'm not sure I follow what you are asking? Anything ad-hoc that needs to be authored can be created in Cognos Workspace Advanced. Cognos Workspace Advanced combines almost the entire set of capabilities from both Query Studio and Analysis Studio into one integrated business-authoring environment. If you want to author an ad-hoc report, use this instead of Query Studio. As I mentioned above, you can launch it directly from within Cognos Workspace if you are already in a workspace. If you are in Cognos Connection just fire it up from the Launch menu.

To restate what MFGF is saying in a slightly different way... You seem to think that Workspace is a substitute for Query Studio. It's not really. To replace QS functionality, you want to use Workspace Advanced. Plain ol' unadvanced Workspace is a dashboarding tool to look at existing content. MFGF explained how to quickly jump into Workspace Advanced from Workspace, but they are really separate tools with different objectives.

OK, Demo went great. I used the Wk Advance for Ad-Hoc Query and Workspace for Dashboard development.
Thank you so much gentlemen for your time.
