Not using webdav and want to point to an image on C: drive....entered in URL C:\\cover1.jpg, but it is not working ?

Which machine's C drive is the image on? I'd recommend you copy the image to the <Cognos install directory>\webcontent\samples\images folder on your Cognos application server, then reference it via a relative URL eg

../samples/images/cover1.jpg
