Hi,
Email Distribution : If an active report is emailed to a recipient mail address.

The recipient should still be connected to internet to receive the email right..Once he saves the .mht file then only it becomes offline right?

Mobile Distribution : Users should install IBM cognos mobile in their iPad or mobile. If they login through this application still they have to be connected to the company network via their Active directory password and then open the report and download it. Once this is doen then they can use it offline.

So access this report for the first time they need to get connected to the internet right? If the reports needs to be refreshed then also they needs to be connected to internet to access the report from server through cognos mobile app.

Please let me know your suggestions on then why we say offline. I understand its offline once they download the report or open the report with the email.

Thanks,
Nithya

Yes - of course. You need to be connected in some way to your email provider to be able to receive emails. Once the Active Report MHT has been received on a device (computer/laptop/mobile device etc) the device can be taken offline and the report can still be used and interacted with.

Yes - precisely. It stands to reason that content cannot be delivered to a device while it is offline, since the term "offline" means it is not connected.

You just described exactly how reports can be used while a device is offline. Active Reports content can be delivered to devices while they are online, then the devices can be taken offline and the Active Reports can still be used. Do you somehow believe content can appear on a device while it is offline? How?

No it makes sense.  Thank you !!

But I installed the cognos mobile in my ipad and then tried to connect to my cognos server , but it was not able to connect .
Should I be connected to the vpn and my active directory be verified?

Thanks,
Nithya

Is your iPad on the same network as your Cognos server? What url did you use when trying to connect? If your iPad is on a different network and the Cognos server network is not reachable, you will need to set up VPN access to connect to it.

Yes, different network. Just going back to basics , is this is the same with accessing normal report studio reports from a different network. Is that the clients or users always needs to be connected  to vpn or logged in through citrix to the network and then access the reports.

Thanks,
Nithya

Yep - the network the Cognos server is on needs to be accessible from the client's device - whether that is a browser, mobile device or MS Office. Generally this is achieved via VPN if the user is outside of the intranet Cognos resides within. As you suggest, citrix can be used too, although I don't think IBM officially support this method.

Cheers!
