I was told I can no longer use port 1521 for our Oracle database that houses the Cognos Content Data Store.   I can fix this from the Oracle side, but I do not know how to point the Cognos database to look for Oracle in a different port.

Does anyone know how to do this?  Is it a file in the Cognos Server?  I couldnt find it in Cognos Configuration.

Thanks

Hi !

Open Cognos configuration and look for Data Access -> Content Manager -> Content Store. The name can be different than Content Store but if you click on that you will see an entry called 'Database server and Port Number'.

Thanks for responding cognostechie.

Unfortunately, I am not seeing that in Cognos Configurator (Version 10.2).

The only thing I am seeing in Data Access is:  Data Access -> IBM Cognos Planning -> Contributor Data Server   and then name=Signature Password // value=**********

I suspect you are looking at the wrong Cognos Configuration?

This is the view you would normally see:

I suspect you are looking at the Cognos Configuration for the 32-bit client installs (Framework Manager, Cube Designer etc) rather than the Cognos Configuration for your 64-bit server instance? How are you launching it?

Thanks MFGF.  That might be it.   I don't understand why the consultants set it up this way then, and why/how is it currently working correctly using the correct Content store?

Is their any other method to see/view how Cognos is currently connecting to the Content Store database?  Is there a file possibly on the Cognos server?

Hi,

On many servers there are two install instances called "IBM Cognos 10" - one is the actual server software (and is usually 64-bit) and the other is the instance for the client tools (and is usually 32-bit).

This means there are two Cognos Configuration utilities on the server - one for the server instance and one for the client tools instance. I suspect you have launched the wrong one - the one for the client tools. The other one will be on the server too - you just need to find it and launch it.

Here you can see both Cognos Configuration utilities displayed in the Start menu. The one you need (in my case) is the second one - within IBM Cognos 10 - 64

You can launch it manually if you can't find a shortcut for it in the Start menu. Go to the install location for your Cognos BI Server (usually Program Files\IBM\cognos\c10-64) then go into the bin64 folder and fire up cogconfigw.exe

Cheers!
