Hi All,
Is their any extension available for the Template created in cognos 8?

Regards,
Anand.

What do you mean by extension?  Like the ability to apply an existing look and feel (headers, footers, etc).  There are 3rd party applications that let you do this.  Have a look at the Powered by Cognos website for more information.

All of the reports, templates included, are .xml extention when saved on a local machine.  As for saving a template in the C8 environment, when you are in report studio, use the File menu and choose the 'Convert to Template' option.

As for creating and managing templates, C8 does a nice job of utilizing templates through Component Layout References (no offense Brightstar).  In creating an Enterprise  Template I created 2 'layers' of templates.

1st - a Master Component template in which I create and name all of my headers, footers, ...
2nd - an Enterprise Template which consists Component Layout References to the Master Component template and calls all of the default look and feel.

There are some practices which make LCRs more effective and usable, such as naming all objects within a each component (tables, images, text blocks,...) so that they can be overriden in the called LCRs.  The nice thing about this is that as I change the Enterprise brand standards, I can simply update the Components in the Master Component template and the changes are reflected in all reports which call those components.  It's really quite slick, and to be fair, I have not seen Brightstar's offering however it would be difficult to improve on the ease of use of the bare C8 functionality for Template management.
No, a proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof, and when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven.
