Invalid Verb Error

We just upgraded from Cognos 8.3 to 10.2.1 about 2 months ago. I noticed when running reports in Report Studio in 10.2.1, that I often receive an error stating: Bad Request - Invalid Verb. HTTP Error 400. The request verb is invalid. It seems to have gotten worse lately. I can hardly run reports without getting this error. I tried using different browsers (IE, Mozilla, Chrome), but I'm still getting the same error.

If I run the same report in 8.3, I don't get that error. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Thank you,

Naomi

Hi Naomi,

is this the issue with few reports or every report you run ?

Hi, it appears to be an issue with every report I run in Report Studio.

Hi Naomi,

i feel there is something wrong with the IIS configuration. I have never encountered such issue, but i am searching on the internet for a solution of this issue...will update you shortly.

may i know what version of IIS are you using ?

CognosPaul

I agree that it's probably an IIS issue, but just to be sure - is anyone else getting the same error, or just you?

naomi_ch

The version is 8.5.9600.16384 on a Windows 2012 R2 box. It seems to be a hit or miss. Ever so often the reports will work. This morning after posting this issue here, it started working. I started running reports around 2 this afternoon again and I started receiving the same error. It has also happened to my co-worker, but not as frequent. There's another team member in a different office logging onto the same application, and he doesn't get the error at all.

Thank you for you help.

Hello Naomi_ch,
Have you tried cleaning out your browser cache, specifically the cookies. Since you have mentioned you upgraded from 8.3, there may be some setting from the older environment still sitting there.
Also, next time when you encounter the error, try to capture the URL for the report and see how many characters it resolves to. IIS by default will allow 260 characters, anything with more than 260 may cause this error.
Next, are there any special characters in the names of the report that throw this error?
If nothing above helps, try installing Fiddler, run a trace, which could be difficult given the random/inconsistent nature of this problem, but once you have it, and have captured the trace with the error, please post it here.
