Hi,

I am running cognos on redhat linux with version 10.2.  All the folders and reports in cognos connection were owned by admin. Recently he left the job, there was no mechanism to transfer entire ownership to one id so he forgot to transfer ownership of some hidden folders. His id was removed from Cognos namespace. Now, I am in need to access reports which are placed under that hidden folder. Though I have admin access, I can't see them. Is there any mechanism it can be recovered?

You can ask your IT folks to reset the password of his account, log in as your self and add his account again to Cognos namespace and make him a member of System Administrator. After this if you log in with his account (probably by doing a remote desktop connection to some server and starting the browser from that server if it's a single sign-on), you would be able to see the folder.

By the way, if you are an admin, you should be able to see the hidden folders anyway even with your own account.

His id has been removed from LDAP also, so can't add him anymore. The folder own by him was hidden, and now its not visible/accessible to any system admin. Though one thing I've noticed today is that, the folder still exists inside public folder. I tried creating a new folder with same name, didn't allow me to do that. So somehow can play with content store and make it visible?

I am with cognostechie in that if you are truly an administrator, Cognos would be ignoring any security. You should be able to see everything. Are you sure you are an administrator? You can check this in your user preferences within Cognos, on the "Personal" tab. Look under Capabilities, you should have "Administration" listed with a check beside it and several sub-capabilities underneath that, all checked.

I was doing a silly mistake. didn't check the "Show Hidden Entries" in "My Preferences" under "My Area Options".
Its working fine now. Thanks for the help!

Show me someone who claims never to have done that sort of thing and I can likely show you a liar.   ;)

Glad you got it figured out.

It's doing that sort of thing on a regular basis that got me my well-deserved billing as a muppet :)
