Layout component references let you store objects for re-use in one "report" and share them across as many reports as you like, e.g. a standard report header or footer. When you want to make a change, you make it to the referenced object and the change will be reflected in all the reports that use it.

You use re-use the existing object by dropping a layout component reference on your report from the toolbox, then select the component from the dialog that pops open. There is more detailed information in Report Studio help.

Hi Sunny,
If you have only two reports, then why u going for LCR concept, normally u write the names individually for each report . Apply the conditions as
if you have many pages in a report or many reports, where you want to use the same company name and its logo. then only LCR is useful.
Why u making you job more hectic.....

Hi Sunny,
You have developed the report heading of the template, if you want to change the heading , then obviously you have the permission to change the heading of the same, U might doing something which is not applicable,
Can u tell the steps , what u r doing and how for developing the template and your report.

If you are changing the heading of the report , then u will get the error. b'coz u can't change the heading of your report.
LCR go and find the object each time you run the report. This is simply a reference rather than a copy of your template.

Cheers !

Sunny,
You need to name the object in your source report. You can use the override property in the report where the layout component reference is placed to select which named element you want to change, such as the report title in your case. You can only override something if it, and the children items within it, are all given a name in the properties of the source report your layout component reference is pointing to.

This thread has a document I wrote ages ago that explains the whole concept in detail. http://www.cognoise.com/index.php/topic,21190.msg64245.html#msg64245

I don't believe that Inu is giving you the correct advice.
