[CC] Cubeswap / auto-refresh question

Hi everyone,

I have a situation I'd like to run by you and hope you can answer my question.  We have are in the process of implementing Cognos 8 and 99% of our reports use cubes as their data sources.  I am using the cubeswap utility to update our data sources so the datasource RMA is pointing to a cube named 2007.0626.1315.rma.mdc.  The plan is to build this cube frequently (to be determined) so it's possible that the next cube will be 2007.0626.1330.rma.mdc.  That piece is working fine so far - the data source can be updated successfully via cubeswap

What manufacturing is looking to do is to set up 3 or 4 LCD displays on the manufacturing floor which will display a report that they want refreshed automatically.  I found a KB article that explains how to create a report which autorefreshes at a specified interval.

The question I have is this:  Will I run into a situation in that if the report is being refreshed every 15 minutes or so, but the user does not log off and back in, won't they be still be using the old data source everytime?  I realize that any new logons will point to the updated cube, but won't existing logons always be pointing to the old data source until the establish a new session?

If anyone can lend some advice I'd appreciate it.

Thank you,

Brian

Brian,
Yep you will run into stale data issue because the datasource connection is not reset till you log off and log back in.
The other choice is to use net stop and net start to refresh the cube, that way the connections are reset.
My 2 cents.
