Hi everyone,

Have any of you an idea why I recieve this error message popup followed by a page with same error message? ???

It's not always showing, so it's probably one of the two servers running the Cognos Planning services which has a issue.

What kind of SQL Server tools do I need to install on the servers running Cognos Planning?

Hi,

Generally in these cases either the application database has been removed from the database server, or permissions for the application database have been modified in a way that removes access for the defined CAC user on the datastore object.

Yeah you are right about that, when pressing the "configure" button on the datastore I recieve this error...

Then it continues and displays the configuration dialog window...

Something is wrong... but I don't know what causing theses issues? ???

If you have the SQL management studio local on the CAC machine (or really any other EP server), try connecting to the datastore with the user / pass specified in the CAC.  If you're able to get in, make sure you can access the EP application databases without error.
