Hi All,

Need help.

One of our application servers has been rebooted unexpectedly. After that cognos service does not seeem to be started properly. Strange thing what happened is I am not able to open cognos configuration on that server. I can start/stop service from service console but its not starting properly. In task manager there is only one process cogbootstrap.exe. There is no java.exe no cgs_lanuncher.exe also if I see log file, its not being updated since the server has rebooted.

On cognos connection that particluar server is showing as unknown.
Thanks
SK

What happens? Do you see an error? Nothing at all? Have you tried right-clicking the cogconfigw.exe file and choosing "Run as Administrator"? Is there a lock file sitting in the configuration folder which is stopping you opening the application? If so, try deleting the lock file...

Cheers!

Thanks a lot for quick response.

Yeah, nothing happens when I click on shortcut IBM Cognos configuration. Yes I tried it to open from cogconfigw.exe, but no luck :(. No error also.

Regarding lock file, I am not able to find any lock in configuration folder. There are few as below but those are related to cryptography and located under configuration->signkeypair folder.

jCAKeystore.lock
jSignKeystore.lock
Thanks

Is there any chance of curruption of current install in that server ?

But how it can be currupted, it was working fine before the that unexpected server reboot.
Thanks

If you look at the list of currently running processes on the machine, is cogconfigw already running?

If all else fails, try rebooting the server again and see if that fixes things.

hi,

just check if the cogconfigw.exe process is running in the processes tab of the windows task manager if you are using a windows based server.

if its running end the process tree. check for any lock files in the configuration folder in the install location and delete them.

try running the cogconfigw.exe again.

Thanks for your suggestions.

However nothing is working fine for me today. Even after server reboot, I am facing the same issue.

Seems like need to involve windows support team,to find out the root cause of that unexpected reboot.
Thanks

Thanks for good wishes :)

somehow now its working. Seems like that install got currupted by some means which is I am not able to find.

As a last option i was thinking for uninstall and re-install option. However just thought to copy whole installation directory structure from working server to non-working. And renamed c10 install directory in non-working server like c10_old.

Then I was able to open configuration. Did some minor changes in configuration(URI rename etc) and started the services properly. And now its working fine. However not sure if i will face any pbm in future because I did not follow standard procedure.
Thanks
