Hello,

Cognos 7 catalogs are being rewritten in Cognos 10. Tables are used in Folders in Cognos 7 with same column names. Now replicating same in Cognos 10 means having query items name same as database column names.

For eg. Table Employee has say EMP_ID,EMP_NAME,EMP_JOIN_DT etc, same was used in Cognos 7 folders in Employee folder > Emp Id, Emp Name, Emp Join Date.

There are more than 100 tables like this and to do this repetitive work is time consuming of renaming column name from EMP_ID to Emp Id in Framework Manager.

Is there a simple and less time consuming way of doing this, any freeware/utility or work around available for this?

Not only for Cognos 7 catalogs but in general, if we have same scenario how do we do this, when table counts is huge.

To bring table into Business layer is drag and drop but after that naming each and every column with almost same name can be made simpler if there is some option like importing it from excel etc.

Please suggest.

thanks

Lynn

Take a look at the language translation capability. The attached explains a way to bulk load screen tips, but I think you can adapt the concept to update column names in Excel and bulk load them.
