Hey Guys,

Some of my users are facing a issue when trying to execute a report. When they choose the 'Run with Options', they are unable to see the 'Save the report' option. However, if the report is in their 'My Folders' they see this option.

I am able to see all the options as I am the administrator.
Is there some group/role that I need to assign them to so that this options is visible to them.

Awaiting your reply.

Thanks,
Ajay

Hey there!
It's kind of counter-intuitive, but in order for a user to be able to "save the report" from the "Run with options" menu, the user must have WRITE privileges on the folder.
At the folder level click on Properties, go to the permissions tab and verify that the relevant group/role of users has write allowed in the folder.

Best of luck!

Hi Nimrod,

Thanks for your reply.

But if I give them the Write access, won't that allow them to delete any existing reports/items.

Thanks,
Ajay

Yes, it would.
The longer solution is to give them write privileges on the reports but not on the folder. They won't be allowed to delete anything (Since deleting is changing the folder content) but they will be allowed to save the report output in advanced run.

Thanks Nimrod  :) It worked.

But it won't be feasible to apply this change to all of the reports. I will need to find some other solution if it exists.

Thanks again.

Here's an idea:
1. Create another folder, give the users write permissions to it.
2. create report views of your reports and put them in the new folder, and direct the users there.
Now, the worst that could happen is that your users will delete a report view - which you can recreate with ease.

Or, use something like BSP's metamanager to broadcast the security changes to all objects...

Oh wait, I forgot, there's a nifty little trick that removes the delete button from the top bar. Start here:
https://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/caapps/v8r4m0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.swg.im.cognos.ug_cra.8.4.1.doc/ug_cra_i_ElementsYouCanHide.html

Now, you can give write permissions on the folder. Your users will still be able to delete reports: If the clicked on "More" next to a report, and specifically click on delete - but now it's obscure and they can't do it "en masse". The red delete button will be gone.

Thanks again Nimrod.

However, I have asked the users to create report views of the required reports and save them in the My Folders.
This solved the problem.

Appreciate your quick and useful responses.

Hi Nimrod,

Could you please let me know if there is any trick so that user can save the report without write permission?

Hi,

We haven't seen Rod on here for a while, sadly. But, to answer your question, no - you need write privilege to be able to save. The option Rod suggested about creating report views in a folder and granting write privilege to this folder seems to be the most obvious course of action?

Cheers!
