Report Studio Failing to Open (Windows 7/Cognos 10.1/IE8)

My infrastructure team just let Windows 7 updates go thru today (11/13/2013).
Since then, I am unable to open Report Studio (interestingly Query Studio Opens without issues).

The secondary windows pane opens, but then I am presented with "Internet Explorer has stopped working" message and I cannot progress further (I have to open task manager which eventually then results in the entire IE window set closing).

I am running Windows 7 Professions SP1 with Cognos 10.1 and IE8.
I have not experienced this until the updates were applied this morning.

I have been thru IE8 settings, add-ons etc. and nothing appears different.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Adam.

try adding the cognos url to trusted sites. Other option to consider is to look at the IIS configuration.

You might ask your infrastructure team for information about what was updated, or look for yourself in Windows Update. This could at least help you narrow down what you need to look at.

I am on IE10 and we have people here on IE9, all on Windows 7 Pro Enterprise, using Cognos 10.2.1. No problems I am aware of at this time.

I'm restricted to IE8 for two reasons:

1.  I believe on Cognos 10.1, there is an incompatibility issues using external data sources on IE9 or higher.
Note:  We scheduled to upgrade to 10.2.1 in January following 4th Quarter busy season.
2.  I have other legacy Oracle applications that require an older version of IE.
I'm pretty sure I can't have two different versions of IE on the same machine without having a different VM.

I have added the Cognos URL to my trusted sites.

However, my other business Report Studio users (on Windows XP) have experienced NO issues.
As a work around, in the short term, until I get my PC Tech team to look at my laptop, I am remote signing-on to another machine and opening report studio there.

I believe something must have changed in my IE settings.

Thanks,
Adam
