Hello guys,

What are best practice for keeping old version of reports when we need to update/overwrite the report.
Thanks

twister

COuld you elaborate this?Do you need to store reports historically  and also overwrite them?

konesens

Yes I have modified a report and I 've heard that If I overwrite the original report then I will loose the versions

I can't believe they haven't added this functionality yet. You should be able to Save As and have an option to retain historical reports. Geeeeeeezzzz.

The only work around I have found is to...

Open the original report and delete all objects on an object by object basis so all you're left with is a blank report "container". This retains the CAMID in the content store. Then with the original report still open in Report Studio, in a separate browser open the modified version in another Report Studio session and copy the objects (starting with the queries) to the original report container. Then save the report. This method will retain your history.

If you're not sure about this process try it out on 2 dummy reports to test.

Nuffsaid.

Thanks Nuffsaid , for simple reports it is fine but for complex report it's quiet annoying.

There are 3rd party products, such as BSP's Integrated Version Control, which might offer some solutions if you've got budget for it.

There are also free versioning tools like Subversion which can store diff versions.
