I am having a few issues with the "DM_EMAIL_VIA_SERVICE" variable.

Setup..

Server 1: Data Manager 10.2
Server 2: Cognos BI Suite 10.2

Server 1 has the correct Gateway and Application tier settings to point to Server 2.

However when i attach a Email Node, no email is sent. It was my understanding that setting the variable should allow DM to use the BI Delivery Service instead of requiring a profile set on Server 1.

NB: In the email node, the profile and password have been set to a sys admin account from the BI env.

Any ideas? What have i missed?

Hi,

Have you defined your execution credentials to allow DM to authenticate with your C10 BI instance? You can check in Actions > Manage Catalog credentials to see if anything is set.

Just a thought.

As always, thank you so much for your prompt response!

You are completely correct, i had missed the settings 'Manage Execution Credentials'!

Although that has not fixed the issue. I either a pop up telling me that i have no profile and if i do enter my credentials in the profile section of the email node, that my credentials are not valid...

Any ideas? IBM don't really say very much on this is any documentation...

Hi,

Sounds like your DM_EMAIL_VIA_SERVICE variable isn't set properly. The error you describe is expected if you are using MAPI rather than your Cognos 10 BI instance to send emails, and have no profile set.

Can you double-check in <install location>/datamanager that you have a dm.ini file.

Open this, and make sure your "Variable" section looks similar to this:

[Variable]
DM_CST_NEW_COOKIE_PASSPORT=1
DS_NET_LOG_DIR=../datamanager/dsnetlog
DS_NET_LOG_FILE_MAX_SIZE=1048576
DS_NET_LOG_FILE_CYCLE_SIZE=5
DM_EMAIL_VIA_SERVICE=1

The important piece is the last entry for DM_EMAIL_VIA_SERVICE

Of course, you will also need your catalog credentials set to a valid Cognos 10 login - first of all log in as a user with the "Logon as" button, then press "Renew credentials", then finally press "Set to current account" in the Catalog credentials area at the bottom. Restart your data manager designer and test...

Cheers!

 :( It seemed i had added my variable to the wrong location in the ini file.

Thank you for your help!

Out of interest, do you ever pass variable through to emails? Like start/ end time of jobs, error messages?

MFGF

Easy mistake to make! I have done far worse! :)

I have done so in the past - I think it was just a case of adding things like {$DS_RUN_TIMESTAMP} etc into the email body in the desired place.

Cheers!
