Export issue when Exporting Cognos 10 Report to CSV format

Hi,

I am having a report that has a list and sublist (Master / Detail relationship) and it runs fine on html but, when we export the report to CSV format, it only exports the list columns and skip all sublist columns.

The column header is ignored and the column data is skipped for all items on the sublist.

Can anyone provide me the workaround for this problem?

Version: Cognos 10.1.1

Thanks

Hi,

Is there a specific reason why you wanted to go for csv.

This is just a guess...

Try running in Excel and see if it looks ok then.
Using CSV strips out all formatting etc so these subsets you are missing may be caused by this stripping of all formatting.

If it works in Excel and HTML then using CSV isn't an option unless you find a way to reorganize the report so that csv exports everything.

Exporting Report to CSV format is part of the business requirements. Actually, this project is a migration from Hyperion to Cognos and I don't know exactly what users do after receive the reports.

I know that all reports retrieve a lot of rows and they need to analize in Excel instead of just navigate on HTML format.

Please let me know any solution for that.

Thanks.

For the record, the way to use this is by using a repeater. That does show up.

To answer a question regarding the reason for this or that request with "This is the requirement" is not to answer it at all. It's like saying "Because". I am of the opinion that a consultant has to understand the customer's requirements and care about them if they are to provide excellent service in exchange for their fees, but I don't personally mind it. However, the question of "Why do it that way" was asked in order to try and provide you with a solution.

You see, Cognos doesn't export sub-lists in CSV form. There's a fair reason for that: CSV files are TEXT files, comma delimited rows. How do you indicate the beginning of a sub list and end of it in a CSV format?
So, the easy answer is "Look, this can't be done, here's the link to the IBM site where it says that".http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEP7J_10.1.0/com.ibm.swg.im.cognos.ug_cr_rptstd.10.1.0.doc/ug_cr_rptstd_id2517cr_rptstd_intrd_run_report.html%23cr_rptstd_intrd_run_report

Instead, the distinguished members of this forum ask you  what is the reason, because they might be able to find another way for you to get what you need. Maybe the new feature of exporting to Excel as unformatted data would do the trick? Maybe if this is needed for further loading an XML format will server better? Maybe there's a way of making your report single-query?

When you say "That's the requirement and that's that" you are basically closing your mind to any other  solution which may help you and your customer, and turning away the advice of experienced, professional consultants. I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that, but that's besides the issue. The thing is, you can only get as much help as you'll allow us to give.

So, given all that was said and done, the answer is:
