C10.2 and Oracle 64 bit client

Hello - hoping someone can offer me some insight.

I'm building out a single demo box with 64 bit BI 10.2 and a content store DB & data DB on a separate Oracle 10g 64 bit DB.  I'm aware that every other version of Cognos has required 32 bit oracle client but is this still true in 10.2?

Since they say 10.2 is 64 bit end to end, I was hoping this included oracle client versions as well and would like to use dynamic query mode on the samples data sources as well as my data DB.  I installed the 64 bit client, but I'm getting the dreaded QE-DEF-0285 error when trying to create the samples DB and my data DB connections.

Do we still need oracle 32 bit client even on 10.2?

Thank you!

Hi,

If you are using Compatible Query Mode (CQM) then this is still the old 32-bit executable running outside of java, and you need the 32-bit Oracle client libraries if you are connecting to Oracle. If you are using Dynamic Query Mode (DQM), you simply need the Oracle jdbc jar files copying to the Cognos server, and DQM uses these rather than the Oracle client libraries. You don't need 64-bit Oracle client libraries for 64 bit DQM access - just the jar files.

When you set up the data source to your samples database, you end up defining both client library access and jdbc access. If you are not intending to use CQM and the Oracle 32-bit client, just fill in dummy values on this page and don't test - then move on to the JDBC page and set up and test your JDBC access. Make sure you restore the samples_DQM folder rather than the Samples folder when importing the samples into Cognos 10 - Samples are set up to use CQM and Samples_DQM are set up to use DQM.

MF.
