Hello,

I tried to create validation rules. It works but the problem is that it display error one by one. It's not possible to display all error in the validation report ?

Thanks

Danno

Did you create a rule set so that your validations for that cube are grouped together? It is hard to say exactly what the solution is without more detail.

philelmousse

Yes maybe I didnt explain well my issue.

If you have several errors in your cube based on one rule it will display only one message for the first error in the validation. I would like to display all error in the validation message. It is posible ?

Danno

As far as I know it will halt on the first instance of an error and display the error message. I have not yet seen it display more than one instance of an error and we tested for that precise circumstance. Perhaps someone has seen something different and will chime in with more details.

Danno

I got thinking on this more yesterday and I did some testing on this issue this morning. I created two enteries in a cube that violated two validation rules. I got both errors to show. I have the Fail Action set to Message Only and lumped both rules into a single rule set for that cube. Maybe it is something to do with how you are grouping your errors in the rule sets or how your rules are written.

Let me know if you need more assistance.

As so often, cognoise is the place where to look for answers..   :)

Just investigating the same thing. What I really need is that the validation shows the user all the errors that a particular validation rule finds and the user can decide there which ones to look at more closely. If validation only works like "found an error but won't show you the next one unless you fix the first" it's of no use.

If someone finds a solution in Planning it's really appreciated.
Otherwise the only option is to take the data to a report and do it there which is, well, not convenient at all for the user.

Mr J, just to try and clarify an earlier response in this thread, you have two options when validating.  Suppose you are checking for 8 things.  You could set up one validation to check those 8 things.  If you do this, then when the first validation exception is hit, that message and only that message will be displayed.  However, you could set 8 validations and let each check independently.  A tad cumbersome to do this but once set-up, should meet your needs.

But, in general, most use validation in the first instance above because the data needs to be validated for all incidences you are checking and there is no point proceeding once a problem is met and resolved (I understand this is not applicable in your case but I was just trying to explain how I see the logic and use of validation rules).

Hopefully you have already resolved this issue.  Cheers!

RickC,
thanks for the input. I see the logic of validation rules the same way, but I was hoping there's some hidden truth   :)

Probably in this case I'll just put an extra row with conditional calculation to check and maybe D-Link this to another cube with an easy-to-read orientation or something.
