Hi,

1)Can anybody give me main differences between reportnet and impromptu?
2)Can we call reportnet as OLAP tool?

Thanks in advance
vsudaya

BIsrik

Reportnet is ofcourse an OLAP tool.

When talking abt impromptu and reportnet..reportnet is completely a web based tool whereas impro is not like that. When u take the security issue RN just depends on the existing ones whereas in impro u have cognos series admin. though impro catalog is ur framework mgr, framework mgr has lots of flexiblity while handling the modelling issues.

Apart from those mentioned by BIsrik, differences include:

  • Much more flexibility in report layout in Report Studio
  • Easier extensions in Report Studio, eg HTML object allows you to include javascript and links to other applications
  • Server-based report development in ReportNet gives you more control over access to the tool and easier management of users
  • Impromptu client application is stand alone
  • Report Studio is zero-footprint for the user
  • ReportNet provides no authentication application, but can use LDAP, Access Manager, Active Directory, etc; or you can write your own Java application

ReportNet is not really OLAP. It provides a dimensional "view" of data, but does not provide OLAP analysis in the same way as PowerPlay. The next version will, however.
