Question/confirmation about connectivity through Access Manager with Transformer:

Environment:
Box 2-- PP "Control" Server, stores logs, Access Manager with Data Sources NOT defined under Directory Servers, but rather under the Local Auth Export file
Box 3-- PP Production, Server with Oracle 9.2 installed, no Access manager, configuration points to Directory Server namespace on Box 2
Box 4-- PP Production, Server with Oracle 9.2 installed, no Access manager, configuration points to Directory Server namespace on Box 2
Box 1-- PP Test, Oracle 10g installed, Access Manager IS installed but configuration points to Directory Server namespace on Box 2

Box 3 and Box 4 run cubes just fine.  But I'm not sure where they are getting their information for the data sources, since the LAE is not referenced in the Cognos Configuration and the only place the data sources are defined is on Box 2.

Box 1 returns an error when trying to run a cube (a direct cube copy from Box 3 or Box 4.)  I have postulated that this is due to incompatibility between 7.1 and Oracle 10g, somewhat confirmed by web research (but I can't find an exact reference.)

I believe that if 9.2 Oracle were installed on Box 1 things would work fine... but I still don't understand how the data source references are working.  I believe that once the Directory Server is pointed to Box 2 that the data sources are being picked up from there, but how do I confirm that?

Hi,

Just to clarify, when you say "Box 3 and Box 4 run cubes just fine", do you mean that the cubes are accessible from with in PowerPlay Web, or that the machines have Transformer installed and can successfully deliver cubes?

If it's the former, then this is to be expected, as data sources in Access Manager are not used by PowerPlay web since the cubes contain all the relevant data required.

If you mean Transformer can run and build cubes successfully on these machines, then the reason is probably that COGNOS.INI has been configured on these machines to point to the relevant data sources, and Transformer is using these definitions rather than the definitions in Access Manager.

Best regards,

MF.

You can check a couple of places to see how things are configured, Cognos Configuration Manager, which needs to know as much as possible, but I'm guessing you need to look at your Cognos.ini file in your drive :\Program Files\Cognos location.  This might have the data source information inside.
