Hi All,

I remember looking into integrating Google maps into our reports to show Supplier location for example a while ago and it was a doddle generating the API key that was required from google.

I have recently looked into getting a API key and it seems to have a cost attached to it now if you go over a certain quota?

If this a new play by google?

Has anyone integrated google maps and would recommend it?

Anyone aware of any other map integration ?

Cheers,

Andy

You can average up to 25,000 map loads per day without cost. See https://developers.google.com/maps/faq#usagelimits for more information.

I have not used Google Maps integration personally but have seen live demos using it. Appears to work quite well, and the code does not seem too difficult.  I believe Bing also has a maps api. You can use ESRI with some restrictions. http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/web-mapping

hI bdbits,

Have you integerated ESRI with cognos 10??? Did you install Vantage in cognos servers to integerate ESRI? can you give some more sight on this?

I am planning to bring the geospatial concept in Cognos with help of ESRI

We have looked at ESRI integration and also recently had a couple of demos of the Vantage product (for Cognos v10), but have not yet implemented it. Unfortunately I need an internal customer willing to pay for us to actually try it. We have such a project estimated and waiting for approval, but its not approved yet. :-(

If you do buy Vantage, the integration is easy as pie. But it's not cheap and is Yet Another Server you have to install, pay for on-going updates, maintain, update, integrate into your Cognos update process, etc. Without Vantage, a reasonably competent person could probably handle a javascript-based implementation to the ESRI web services without too much trouble. And we are considering that. But it will take some time to put together and will require some custom work every time you want to add a map to a report.
