Running Service - Local System Account vs. Named Account

Hello,

I want to run our Cognos 10 service with a named account, however when doing so the problem occurs that you cannot start the service through Cognos Configuration.  You must first open the services console in windows, re-enter the password, and only then can you start the configuration.

Is there anyway around this?  I would like to have the Cognos service start when the server boots up.  Do you have to use the startup.bat file in Tomcat\bin to start the service?  If so what is the procedure - schedule it to run on startup and then run every so often?

Lastly, what real differences are there between Local System Account and a named account?  I wanted to use the named account to put deployment files from DEV to the QA server and QA to the PRD server.  The service account will have write access to these folders, which I can't do from the Local Account.

We are on Cognos 10.1.1 and have a single server for all environments.

The password should stick when you change it.  That you are seeing this behavior means something is wrong.  What you want to achieve with a named account (automatic start on reboot, start/stop from Cog Config) is standard operating procedure for most Windows deployments.

Do you have local admin rights when you make that change? You click Apply after making the change?  It's a domain account?  Password never changes? It's a member of the local Administrators group?
